There are two types of surges one comes externally from atmosphere such as atmospheric lightning. Second type is originated from electrical system itself, such as switching surges. Both cause voltage stress on the transmission system many times greater than normal rated voltage of the system. Hence, surge protection scheme must be provided to the electrical power transmission system to make reliable and healthy system. Lightning arrester is one of the main components to protect the system from surge.

These lighting arresters are hermetically sealed gas discharge tubes consisting of two or three electrodes properly spaced by insulators and filled with a noble gas. The main purpose of this surge arrester is to provide a conductive path for unwanted and excessive transients, thereby preventing the transient energy and voltages from damaging equipment and components as well as causing harm to people. Characteristic for this surge arrester are the high current capability and the independence of environmental influences. Thanks to their high dielectric strength and low capacitance, these arresters have virtually no impact to the system they protect.

This surge protection device is mainly applied to the TN-C, TN-S, TT, IT power system of AC50Hz or 60 Hz, nominal discharge current 5kV- 60 kA, maximum discharge current 10kA – 100 kA, rated operational voltage 220V or 380V to protect the power grid from thunder shock overload and surge overload voltage. It is widely applied to residential power grid as well as commercial and industrial power network.

AC power frequency is from 48Hz to 62Hz. Continuous voltage on the terminal should not exceed the maximum continuous operational voltage. It should not be installed 2000m above the sea level. This product conforms to standard of IEC61643-1.
